Ultrarunner Steve Sammut Nurminen completed a 24-hour endurance challenge at the university track in Msida on December 2 and 3 to support Soup Kitchen OFM. The "Move For Meals" event aimed to generate funds for the charity's food distribution program.
Volunteers collectively covered 3,011 km across 7,528 laps during the two-day period. The initiative raised €6,940 toward a €12,000 goal, enough to supply meals for one month. Nurminen ran 394 laps, equal to four marathons, contributing funds for 160 meals.
He started on Saturday afternoon and continued through Sunday morning, pausing briefly each hour for food and hydration.
Event Activities and Partners
The program featured a one-mile race for children with 40 competitors, along with pilates, yoga, mobility classes, and HYROX workouts. Local companies BRND WGN and Garnish collaborated on the event, with Garnish providing the food supplies. iGEN acted as a sponsor, and staff member Enrico Bradamante completed a four-lap challenge that required drinking a beer before each segment.
Nurminen previously raised over €6,000 for the soup kitchen earlier this year by running 365 km in Sicily. Soup Kitchen OFM distributes approximately 120,000 meals annually to more than 30,000 people, while also offering legal and psychological support. "I don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry.
That’s why our primary goal is to raise funds for the local Soup Kitchen," Nurminen stated.
